Steps of Change - Poster Party
Location: Granville Public, 217 E. Broadway, Granville, OH 43023

Join us for a casual, community-centered evening creating signs advocating for change around homelessness, addiction, and mental health awareness. All materials will be provided, and participants of all ages are welcome. This issue is deeply personal to Mason as both a veteran and a father. Many veterans face homelessness after returning to civilian life due to PTSD, lack of support systems, and barriers to care. According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, more than 32,000 veterans experience homelessness nationwide. Children are also heavily impacted by housing insecurity, with an estimated 1.2 to 2.5 million children experiencing homelessness each year. This event is an opportunity to come together as a community, raise awareness, and show compassion for those who are too often overlooked. This is what democracy looks like.

May Day - Workers Over Billionaires

On May Day, local organizations from across Ohio gathered at the Ohio Statehouse to demand an economy that works for working people, not just the ultra-wealthy. This movement was not isolated to Ohio. Communities across the country came together to speak out against rising inequality, growing corporate influence, and the increasing financial pressure placed on everyday Americans. As billionaires continue to accumulate record wealth, many families are struggling with rising costs of housing, healthcare, childcare, and basic necessities. This event was about standing together and demanding leadership that prioritizes workers, families, and communities over corporate greed and political favoritism.

DSP Ohio, LLC is partnering with Mason Blankenship, a candidate for Ohio’s 68th House District, to host a conversation with several candidates from Ohio’s 12th Congressional District, to examine Ohio’ system for supporting people with developmental disabilities and their families. This event will give candidates a chance to hear from people who use or work in the system, learn how funding works, and understand how property tax changes might affect people with developmental disabilities, their families, and the workers who support them.

Disability services in Ohio are provided by many groups, including agencies, independent organizations and providers, direct support professionals (DSPs), and county boards. They all rely on money from local, state, and federal sources. This funding ensures that people get the support they need to stay safe, stay healthy, and be part of their communities. It also helps families and caregivers and gives people with disabilities more choices in their daily lives.

Right now, Ohio leaders are talking about possible changes to property taxes. Because of this, it is important for candidates running for public office to understand how the developmental disabilities system works and how it is paid for. Changes to property taxes could affect the
services that many Ohioans depend on.
Add your voice. Ask questions.  Tell us about your experiences and concerns in caring for your most precious family members.  We want to hear your suggestions on how to improve your and your loved one's experience in utilizing Ohio's Developmental Disabilities services.
Please note, we will live-stream the event on Zoom for those who have transportation barriers.  To facilitate communication for the deaf and hard of hearing, an ASL interpreter will be on site to translate spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) in real-time.
We look forward to seeing you on the 18th!

Connect. Participate. Stay Informed.
